THE SONG OF THE MONTHS Concluded
I'm windy March, I herald the spring, And bring the winds that whistle and sing And queer little pussies in coats of fur, Who grow on bushes and never purr.
I'm April, with Easter lilies sweet,
The chime of bells I gladly greet;
I bring the showers of falling rain
That patter and dance on the window pane
I'm merry May. whose blossoms like snow. Fall from the trees in feathery glow; From meadow and lea wild flowers glance, As round the May-pole the children dance.
I'm June, the month of roses red. The bridal month, when I rue lovers wed; The song of birds now fills t he air, With perfume of berry and flowers fair.
I'm noisy July, I ring the bell, The story of freedom I loudly tell; With gleam of Hag and boom of gun, I welcome the day when liberty won.
8   I'm August, the month of golden rod, And clovers pink that peep from the sod; I ripen the pear and purple plum,
Ami lill tlir air with wild bees' hum.
9   I am September, and stacks of wheat Now gleam amd glitter in burning heat; The barns I fill with loads of grain,
All safe from patter of falling rain.
1" 1 am October, with crimson leaves
Apples and nuts now fall from the trees; ! bring Hallowe'en to try our luck. Candles we burn, for apples we duck.
11   I am November, Thanksgiving I bring. The song of thanks we joyfully sing; The children now long for turkey and pie, For cranberry tart they dream and sigh.
12   I am December, the best of the year,
I tell of shepln-rds and Christ-child dear; The Christinas trees bring good will and mirth, While songs of joy ring through the earth
